Yasala Balaiah

Master Artist • 'Batik Balaiah' (1940–2020)

Born in Ibrahimpur, Siddipet, AP, India. Known for his celebration of colors on canvas and cloth portraying rural life in the Telangana region.

Famous for fine-line outlines of men and women engaged in chores, dressing up, or relaxing with parrots—accentuated by canary yellow, leaf green, burning orange, and signature kumkum forehead marks.

Yasala Prakash

Contemporary Batik Artist & Master

Continuing his father's legacy, Yasala Prakash excels in the challenging and technical discipline of Batik painting on cloth and canvas.

While taking inspiration from his father's tradition, Prakash focuses on the mythical and iconic, bringing exceptional attention to detail in expressions, attire, and symbolic themes.

Life & Career of Yasala Balaiah

Balaiah Yasala received his M.A.B Ed. Drawing Higher and enjoyed a distinguished 60+ year career as a master artist. A key highlight of his career was receiving the National Award from the President of India in 1994.

He actively participated in renowned artist camps at Lepakshi, Ramappa, Konarka, Manipal, and Hyderabad, creating works cherished for their cultural preservation and artistic mastery.
